Native components matter more than in frontend design

A frontend team can build a new component when required. In Power BI every custom solution adds implementation and maintenance cost, so the designer should know the core native building blocks.

Data presentation. Table, Matrix, Card, KPI, Bar, Column, Line, Area, Combo, Waterfall, Scatter, Treemap, Funnel, Gauge, Azure Maps, Decomposition Tree, Key Influencers.

Controls. Slicer, date slicer, dropdown slicer, list slicer, buttons, page navigator, bookmark navigator.

Content. Text, images, shapes.

Analytical functionality. Filters, cross-filter, cross-highlight, drill-down, drill-up, drillthrough, tooltips, report-page tooltips, field parameters, conditional formatting, bookmarks, sorting, focus mode, export.

The role of UX is usually to define the approved configuration of these capabilities rather than to invent replacements.
