The designer's new role

Designing for Power BI is not simply designing dashboards in Figma. The UX designer helps define the analytical interface between data and a business decision.

The designer should understand enough Power BI to answer:

• What is native?
• What can be configured?
• What is data-driven?
• What interaction is available?
• What belongs in Figma?
• What belongs in the semantic model / DAX?
• What belongs in the Power BI theme?
• What should become a reusable pattern?
• What should not be customized?

You do not need to become the Power BI developer — but you need enough understanding of the runtime to avoid designing against it.
