Guide section 54 of 55
The designer's new role
Designing for Power BI is not simply designing dashboards in Figma. The UX designer helps define the analytical interface between data and a business decision.
The designer should understand enough Power BI to answer:
- What is native?
- What can be configured?
- What is data-driven?
- What interaction is available?
- What belongs in Figma?
- What belongs in the semantic model / DAX?
- What belongs in the Power BI theme?
- What should become a reusable pattern?
- What should not be customized?
You do not need to become the Power BI developer — but you need enough understanding of the runtime to avoid designing against it.
