Guide section 7 of 31
Complete Power BI Component & Capability Inventory
The recovered interactive guide contained 133 catalog entries. That catalog intentionally mixed native Power BI visuals/features with Nudge BI representations, Power UI standardization assets, design-system tokens, custom visuals and reusable design patterns. This reconstruction preserves that coverage but labels the implementation status so those categories are not confused.
Current platform checks
- Power BI visuals remain the building blocks of report pages and can interact through cross-filtering/cross-highlighting.
- Q&A experiences are scheduled to go away in December 2026; do not standardize new report patterns around Q&A.
- Azure Maps is the preferred map direction; Bing-based Map/Filled Map are on a deprecation path.
- Report themes remain JSON-based and can set supported defaults; individual visual formatting can override theme defaults.
KPI & summary
Card
- Native Power BI: Yes
- Catalog status / standard: Core native / Preferred
- Purpose: Show one or more high-priority measures with optional reference labels and supporting values.
- Best for: Primary KPIs, actual vs target, actual vs previous period, compact executive summaries.
- Avoid when: Large metric inventories or cases where row-by-row comparison is the main task.
- Suitable data: Measure(s), Optional reference/detail fields
- Typical UX usage: Primary KPIs, actual vs target, actual vs previous period, compact executive summaries.
- Key configuration / design guidance: Show label → primary value → comparison(s). Use semantic color only for meaningful status. Keep number formats consistent.
- Interaction capabilities: Cross-filter, Cross-highlight, Tooltip, Focus mode, Export data (where permitted)
- Accessibility considerations: Use descriptive titles/labels and alt text; maintain contrast; never rely on color or hover alone; ensure keyboard/tab-order behavior is testable.
- Known limitations / restrictions: Keep the number of callouts small. A card is a summary, not a substitute for a table or trend chart. The current Card visual is GA and replaces the legacy single-card and multi-card visuals for new reports.
